Municipal & Land Use Planning
We represent municipalities, taxpayers, residents’ associations, contractors, business operators and developers in all aspects of municipal and land use planning law. We deal with business licensing, taxation, prosecutions and approvals on behalf of our clients. Our municipal clients rely on us to take care of all of their real estate needs, to draft and review by-laws and commercial agreements, advise on procurement and dispositions, elections, parliamentary procedure, conflicts of interest, MFIPPA (privacy and information access) and tax assessment appeals.
We advise on the Education Act and legal issues facing school boards including commercial transactions, real estate and development, civil litigation, human rights and Constitutional issues, employment and labour, development charges, taxation, information access and privacy, policy and governance.
Elections are the foundation of democracy. They are hard fought, passionate and all about change. Fairness is and must be paramount. We advise municipalities, school boards, candidates at all levels and involved citizens on election legislation including challenging the process and outcomes in court when necessary. We assist campaigns in meeting all election finance and campaign rules and filings.
We advise conservation authorities on their obligations under the Conservation Authorities Act. We are able to assist with real estate matters, license and tenancy agreements, enforcement and prosecution matters and freedom of information requests.
