Bankruptcy, Insolvency & Proposals

Sometimes the best laid plans don’t work out. Bankruptcy, insolvency, restructuring and consumer proposals are an opportunity to hit the reset button. The Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act is the starting point to determine the next steps when there is an inability to service debt and pay creditors. We’ll work with trustees in bankruptcy, banks, credit card companies and Canada Revenue Agency to help you overcome the challenges and put you in the best position possible to move ahead, start over and maintain your reputation.

Conservation Authorities

We advise conservation authorities on their obligations under the Conservation Authorities Act. We are able to assist with real estate matters, license and tenancy agreements, enforcement and prosecution matters and freedom of information requests.

Criminal and Strict Liability Offences

We provide prosecution services to municipalities and other public sector bodies. Companies retain us to defend against environmental, workplace safety and other types of statutory violations. We represent individuals in defense of charges against them. We accept legal aid certificates. We advocate for the best interests of our clients.

We advise on the Education Act and legal issues facing school boards including commercial transactions, real estate and development, civil litigation, human rights and Constitutional issues, employment and labour, development charges, taxation, information access and privacy, policy and governance.

We advise municipalities, school boards, candidates at all levels and involved citizens on election legislation including challenging the process and outcomes in court when necessary. We assist with forming companies, partnerships, joint ventures, trusts, inter-generational transfers and estate planning matters. We are able to deal with all of your real estate needs including planning, building and development applications. We represent clients before the Normal Farm Practices Protection Board and the Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Appeal Tribunal. We defend farmers charged with offences under the Provincial Offences Act.

Tax

We advise clients on income tax, GST/HST, retail sales tax and property tax issues. We file and act on objections and appeals and appear before the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court and the Assessment Review Board.

We assist on trademark, copyright and patents by providing access and referrals to protect your intellectual property rights. We initiate on behalf of our clients and defend against claims for defamation, slander and libel including those annoying bad online business reviews. We advise on click-through agreements, licenses and royalty agreements.

Wills & Estates

We draft wills and powers of attorney. We advise on estate planning matters, assist with the administration of estates and act on behalf of clients in estate, power of attorney and guardian disputes.
